Wolfgang Behrendt (politician)

Wolfgang Behrendt (born October 26, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German politician. From November 10, 1994 to October 17, 2002, he was a member of the German Bundestag for two electoral terms and was elected on the state list of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in Berlin.

Life

After graduating from high school, Behrendt studied law, political science and modern history. After graduating as a political scientist, he initially worked in the private sector before becoming a district councilor in Berlin-Spandau in 1975 , which he remained until 1985.

Behrendt joined the SPD in 1959 and was a member of the Berlin state executive from 1978 to 1992. From 1987 to 1992 he was also the district director in Spandau. From 1985 to 1994 Behrendt was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . He resigned from the Berlin state parliament when he was able to enter the German Bundestag via the Berlin state list in the 1994 federal election. He was a full member of the Committee for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and was also a deputy member of the Committee for Spatial Planning, Building and Urban Development. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of the Western European Union (WEU) for the German Bundestag . In the 1998 Bundestag election , he again entered the Bundestag, this time through a direct mandate in constituency 252 (Berlin-Spandau) . During this electoral term he was represented in the Foreign Affairs Committee and also a deputy member of the Defense Committee . He was head of the delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany and Vice-President in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He was also Vice-President of the Assembly of the Western European Union.
