Wolfgang Blaschek

Wolfgang Blaschek (born March 4, 1949 ) is a German biologist specializing in pharmaceutical biology .

Life

Blaschek studied agricultural biology at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart , where he received his doctorate in 1978 at the Institute for Plant Physiology and Biotechnology . A year later he moved to the Institute for Pharmaceutical Biology at the University of Regensburg , where he completed his habilitation in 1987 in the Department of Pharmaceutical Biology. In 1992 he was appointed professor of pharmaceutical biology at the Pharmaceutical Institute at Kiel University. At the end of the 2014 summer semester, Wolfgang Blaschek retired.

As the successor to Rudolf Hänsel, Blaschek is co-editor of Hager's Encyclopedia of Medicinal Substances and Drugs .

His main research interests are the isolation, structure elucidation and biological activity of phytochemicals. His special focus is on the investigation of polysaccharides .
