Wolfgang "Brauni" Braun (born February 26, 1944 in Schwerin ) is a former German handball player .

The Berliner (formerly West Berlin ) is one of the most successful German indoor handball national players of the 1960s and 1970s. He played a total of 59 internationals (plus 1, subsequently declared as "unofficial" international match against Yugoslavia (16:16)), in which he threw 76 goals. (actually 84 ...).

As a Bundesliga player he played for Berliner SV 92 , Füchse Berlin , Hamburger SV , VfL Bad Schwartau and SV Grunewald Berlin from 1966 to 1981 . His preferred player positions were left wing , half left and middle back . He is the 20th national player in the handball team of the Federal Republic of Germany, which has played more than 50 international matches. He became German indoor handball champion in 1964 with the BSV, and student world champion in Madrid in 1965 (FRG). He played at the student world championships in 1968 in West Germany and in 1971 in Czechoslovakia. From 1969 to 1971 he was the captain of this team. With the national team he was in the XX. Olympic Games in Munich 1972 sixth. At the four-country tournament in 1973 in Ljubljana, the jury awarded Braun an honorary prize as the most valuable player in the German team. He also took part in the 1974 World Cup (9th place) in the GDR. He was known for his inimitable - developed by him - double body deception ("wobble"), which made it extremely difficult for his opponents to figure him out.

He achieved further sporting successes in athletics. Braun was among other things German runner-up in the Int. Pentathlon. As a tennis player, he played in the regional league (seniors) for several years. Braun is professional u. a. as a graduate engineer (TU), business consultant / techn. Business economist , European energy manager , qualified real estate manager (EIA) and has been working independently for many years in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin. He is also the holder of a (recently renewed in 2014) B trainer license for handball.
