Wolfgang Buss

Wolfgang Buss (born October 18, 1944 in Arnswalde / Pomerania ) is a German sports historian and professor at the University of Göttingen.

Life

Buss studied sport, politics and history at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . After passing the 1st and 2nd state exams, he received his doctorate in sports science under Wilhelm Henze in 1975 , became an academic (senior) councilor at the Institute for Sports Science in Arnd Krüger's department and finally completed his habilitation in sports science with a focus on sports history and sports policy on the early history of sports the Soviet Zone and the GDR. In 2011 he was appointed adjunct professor in Göttingen. His main focus is the recent German sports history of the 20th century. He was one of the organizers of the European Congress for Sports History in Göttingen and is a Fellow of the European Committee for Sports History . The long-time chairman of the Göttingen Regional Sports Association and today's honorary member and the Southern Lower Saxony section of the German Olympic Society was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 2016.
