Wolfgang Fries (born September 1, 1975 in Ingolstadt ) is a former ice hockey player .

Athletic career

In 1982 Wolfgang Fries started his sporting career as a footballer. From 1984 to 1994 he played at MTV Ingolstadt as a defender. In 1994 he moved to TSV Oberhaunstadt (District League Oberbayern Nord), where he not only plays football to this day, but also works as the first department head.

In 1994 Fries started his career as a professional athlete in ice hockey . From 1994 to 2000 he played in his home club, the ERC Ingolstadt . He experienced the high point of his sporting career when he was runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga with the ERC in April 2000 . Coach during this time included the former Austrian national coach Jim Boni , Ignaz Berndaner (bronze medalist of the 1976 Olympic team), ex-national player Peter Obresa and ex-Bundesliga goal scorer Richard Neubauer.

In order to develop further in sport or to take on more responsibility, Fries switched to ES Weisswasser in 2000 . At the Füchsen, Fries played as a defender in the front row and was also used in over- and undernumbered games.

Due to the fact that Wolfgang Fries was studying business administration at the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences parallel to his ice hockey career, he decided after a year to play ice hockey closer to his hometown. He was able to realize this project at Erding Jets , to which he switched in 2001. The "German Team" (a team only with German players, which should mainly give young German players game practice) was trained by ice hockey legend Erich Kühnhackl and reached the play-offs in the major league. After this season, the Jets had to file for bankruptcy, which also resulted in the sporting descent. In 2002 Fries moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for EV Regensburg , which was trained by Ignaz Berndaner.

When Wolfgang Fries took up the post as assistant to the management team at Gebrüder Peters in 2005, it also marked the end of his career as a professional ice hockey player.
