Wolfgang Heilmann (Economist)

Wolfgang Heilmann (* 1930 in Lower Silesia ) is a German economist and honorary professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . He donated the Wolfgang Heilmann Prize .

Life

After graduating from high school in Alfeld (Leine) in 1951 , Heilmann studied economics and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main and at the University of Tübingen , which he graduated in 1956 with a degree in economics . In 1959 he received his doctorate with a thesis on "Social Utopias of the Modern Age" with the economist Hans Peter .

After working at IBM and in the mechanical engineering industry, Heilmann founded Integrata in 1964, initially set up as a “working group for integrated data processing” , which he converted into an AG in 1989 and headed for ten years as chairman of the board.

As early as 1968 Heilmann brought out a "series of publications for integrated data processing", which contains more than fifty works, in particular on questions of the application of the new medium of data processing. In 1987, for example, the world's first monograph on the subject of teleprogramming appeared in which Heilmann examined over a thousand teleworking positions for programmers in the USA, England, Germany and Switzerland and made suggestions for the design of these process innovations.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Heilmann was a lecturer and lecturer at the University of Tübingen (1965–1973) and the Administrative and Business Academy Stuttgart (1965–1980) as well as visiting professor at the Tongji University , the University of Shanghai, the TU Dresden and the Lomonossow University in Moscow . In 1999 he became an honorary professor at the University of Karlsruhe with a teaching position for teleworking processes and virtual organizations.

In 1995, Heilmann received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in recognition of his entrepreneurial and social services .

Wolfgang Heilmann Prize

In 1999 Heilmann set up the “Integrata Foundation” as sole benefactor for the humane use of information technology , which aims to improve the quality of life of all people through the use of information technology. The Wolfgang Heilmann Prize is endowed with € 10,000 and is awarded for outstanding suggestions for improving the use of computers in society. In 2016 it was about "Education for the eSociety". We were looking for projects and concepts for education that people will need in a society completely permeated by IT in order to be able to lead a self-determined and responsible life.

Until 1999 the Integrata Foundation for the humane use of information technology awarded the predecessor of the Wolfgang Heilmann Prize, the prize for integrated data processing .
