Wolfgang Hopyl

Wolfgang Hopyl was a printer in Paris .

He probably came from Utrecht or The Hague. In 1489 he came to Paris. From 1494 to 1500 he was partner of Jean Himan (Higmanus) and from 1503/03 partner of Henricus Stephanus . From 1494 he also printed for the English market, such as for the London stationery dealer Nicolas Lecomte Liber synonymorum and in 1495 Liber Festivalis . In 1496/97 he employed David Lauxius from Edinburgh, who later became a teacher in Arras and a friend of Badius Ascensius . From 1512 he printed for Franz Birckmann , as well as for the Cologne bookseller Gottfried Hittorp (* around 1485/1490; † 1573).

Most of his books use the motto Fortuna opes aufferre: non animum potest .
