Wolfgang Jacob Dümler , also Wolf , Jakob , Dümmler (born April 21, 1610 in Nuremberg ; † January 25, 1676 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and author.

Life

Dümler was the son of a Nuremberg carpenter. He studied Protestant theology at the University of Altdorf and received his master's degree here in December 1632 . In the winter of 1632/33 he was vicar midday preacher at the Heilig-Kreuz-Pilgerpital . In 1633 he traveled to Tübingen and Strasbourg to study further. On August 28, he was assaulted near Tübingen and wounded in his head, neck, arm and hands. He suffered the consequences of these injuries all his life. After a cure and an examination in Nuremberg he was allowed to continue his studies and he went back to Strasbourg. At Easter 1634 he returned to Nuremberg via Heidelberg, Mainz and Frankfurt am Main. He received an appointment as a deacon (2nd pastor) at St. Egidien .

Johanniskirche and Johannisfriedhof (2013)

In 1636 he became pastor of the Johanniskirche in the Johannisfriedhof , at that time still in front of the city . Here he stayed until the end of his life. He developed a rich pastoral activity in the cemetery, which was expanded in 1644. He had further preaching assignments at the Holy Cross and at St. Sebastian until it was closed in 1646.

In addition, he campaigned for horticulture and fruit tree cultivation and processing ( Peltzkunst ), which had suffered greatly from the Thirty Years' War .

From 1635 he was married to Magdalena, b. Halbmeyer († 1673), a daughter of the printer and bookseller Simon Halbmeyer. Of the couple's twelve children, only four survived their father.

He was buried in the Johannisfriedhof.
