Kasic began his political career in 1979 as chairman of the Young People's Party Frohnleiten and was also elected district chairman of the Young ÖVP in the Graz area . In 1993 he took over the executive chairmanship of the Frohnleiten Tourist Association and that year also became Deputy Chairman of the Graz Tourist Region. In addition, Kasic has been Vice Mayor of Frohnleiten since 1996 and has represented the ÖVP since 2000 as a member of the Styrian Landtag, where he was the economic spokesman for the ÖVP Landtag Club. According to his own statements, his political priorities were in the areas of local politics as well as economic and financial policy.

At the beginning of 2011 criticism was voiced that he financed a free newspaper published by him through advertisements for the gaming industry, but was also the WK division chairman responsible for gaming and chairman of the gaming committee in the state parliament. The accusation was that he was mixing business interests, his function as a Chamber of Commerce and his political activities in an unacceptable manner. In August 2011, as a result of this criticism, he resigned both his political office and his function in the Chamber of Commerce.
