Wolfgang Kirsch (Manager)

Wolfgang Kirsch (born March 19, 1955 in Bensberg ) is a German manager . He was CEO of DZ Bank AG from September 15, 2006 to December 31, 2018 .

Career

The son of sports official August Kirsch began his professional career in 1975 with a banking apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank and did his military service as a reserve officer .

From 1977 to 1981 he studied business administration at the University of Cologne with a degree in business administration. From 1981 to 2002 he worked for Deutsche Bank in Viersen, Düsseldorf, Singapore and Frankfurt am Main, most recently as Managing Director in the Corporate and Investment Banking division.

Since April 2002, Kirsch has been a member of the Board of Directors of DZ Bank in Frankfurt am Main. In October 2005 he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of DZ Bank. From September 15, 2006 to December 31, 2018, Kirsch was Chairman of the Management Board. Under his aegis, the two central institutions DZ BANK and WGZ BANK merged to form DZ BANK on August 1, 2016. Until the end of 2018, Kirsch was the chairman of the merged institute.

Kirsch is married and has two grown children.

Awards

Gold Raiffeisen / Schulze-Delitzsch Medal - In November 2018, the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) awarded Wolfgang Kirsch the Raiffeisen Medal. It is the highest award of the DRV and is given to a maximum of 30 living people.

McCloy Award - In June 2017 the American Council on Germany presented Wolfgang Kirsch with the John McCloy Award in New York .

European Banker of the Year 2013 - In 2014 Wolfgang Kirsch received the “ European Banker of the Year 2013” award .

Mandates

Kirsch is a member of the advisory board of Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG , member of the supervisory board of Fresenius Management SE, member of the shareholders' committee of B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. Holding AG , chairman of the advisory group of Fraport AG , member of the board of directors (audit and finance committee) of the US agricultural machinery manufacturer AGCO as well as member of the board of trustees of the Marktwirtschaft foundation and member of the administration of the Städel Museum .
