Wolfgang Knorre

Wolfgang Adolf Knorre (born January 9, 1937 ) is a German biophysicist and biomedical scientist .

Career

After graduating as a graduate physicist, Knorre came to the Institute for Microbiology and Experimental Therapy (IMET) in Jena in 1963 . In 1967 he received his doctorate in physics from the University of Leipzig in 1967, followed by a doctorate in human medicine from the University of Jena in 1972. The scientific focus of his work was the analysis as well as the mathematical modeling and optimization of microbial processes. He initiated the research group Biophysical Systems Analysis and Computer Simulation. Later he was Head of Biotechnology at ZIMET. After its liquidation, the Hans Knöll Institute (HKI) emerged from the core areas in 1992 and Knorre became founding director. In 1995 he was appointed professor for bioprocess development at the Biological-Pharmaceutical Faculty of the University of Jena. When his successor Albert Hinnen left the institute in April 2002, Knorre took over the management of the HKI again for three years and at the end of 2002 led the institution, which had previously been financed by the state, to the Leibniz Association .
