Wolfgang Mack

Wolfgang Mack (born February 14, 1808 in Altenkunstadt , † February 11, 1883 in Fürth ) was a German surgeon and obstetrician and benefactor .

Life

He was particularly committed to the Israelite orphanage , and Dr.-Mack-Strasse at the city park was named in his honor. In Fürth he opened his practice as a general practitioner in February 1831. He was married to Luise Mack, nee. Geldersheimer (from Bamberg). On the occasion of his golden wedding anniversary he set up the foundation of the "Dr. Wolfgang and Luise Mack'schen Freiplatz" (in the orphanage).

A bronze commemorative medal was minted on the occasion of his death in 1883 (front: half-length portrait, back: oil lamp with two laurel branches, plus the Latin motto " Aliis inserviendo consumor " (in German, for example: By serving others, I consume)). His son Jakob Wolfgang Mack (* 1845, emigrated to New York in 1863) was also a founder of his hometown.
