Wolfgang Maria Schmid

Wolfgang Maria Schmid (born August 4, 1867 in Passau , † November 16, 1943 in Munich ) was a German art historian, archaeologist, folklorist, librarian and conservator.

Life

Schmid was involved in historical research and monument preservation in his hometown of Passau. From 1895 he was a librarian, then a curator at the Bavarian National Museum and played a key role in the investigation of the imperial graves in Speyer Cathedral .

Until his retirement in 1923, Schmid was chief curator at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in Munich. In the era of National Socialism , he led from 1936 to 1938 in 1933 opened Ostmark Museum in Passau.
