Wolfgang Mayr

Wolfgang Mayr (born June 11, 1944 in Schärding , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian journalist and former editor-in-chief of the Austria Press Agency .

Life

The son of a family of teachers and merchants from Innviertel attended the humanistic grammar school of the Kremsmünster Abbey and then went to Vienna to study . In 1968 he joined the editorial team of the Austria Press Agency. In 1981 he became deputy head of department and in 1988 department head of the foreign policy editorial team. From 1988 he worked as head of the service , advanced to deputy editor-in-chief in 1993 and in 1997 succeeded Josef A. Nowak as editor-in-chief . He campaigned for a modern and service-oriented agency, in particular by setting up a picture service and a graphics department in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2005 he retired.

In addition to his journalistic work, Mayr is a passionate tarot player and author of several books on the subject together with Robert Sedlaczek .
