Boris the Blade is an Australian deathcore and technical death metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 2010.

history

The quartet came together in 2010, after which the EP Tides of Damnation , produced by Roman Koester , a guitarist with The Red Shore , was released via RTD Records in 2011 . The EP features Chris "CJ" McMahon from Thy Art Is Murder and Kyson Shepherd from Signal the Firing Squad as guest vocalists . A short time later, Koester joined the group because The Red Shore had disbanded. Upon release, the group signed a deal with Siege of Amida Records . Before the end of 2011, the band had toured Parkway Drive and performed with All Shall Perish . In 2012 they went on tour, in addition there was an appearance in Hobart at the Bastardfest before they went on a national tour with Make Them Suffer in November . In late 2013, Koester left the group and was replaced by Cameron Eyre. After the album The Human Hive was released in 2014 , Daniel Hickey was replaced by drummer Karl Stellar. Towards the end of the year a tour with Martyr Defiled followed . In May 2015 the band played together with Sepultura , Destruction , Arsis and Micawber in Sacramento . The next album followed in 2017 under the name Warpath . In their career, the group has also performed with Obey the Brave and Bleeding Through , among others .

style

According to Brian Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band plays modern technical death metal. Justin Croteau from metalinjection.net assigned the band to deathcore in his review of The Human Hive . In addition to the genre-typical elements such as breakdowns , the group tries to stand out by incorporating classic Death Metal. This becomes particularly clear through the blastbeats of the drums, but also in the interplay with the tricky riffs and solos of the electric guitars as well as Sharp's vocals. The album is suitable for fans of Suicide Silence , Whitechapel and The Crimson Armada . Vincent Grundke from Metal Hammer also summarized the music of Warpath as deathcore, which sounds fresh, intelligent and loving to detail. In the songs Boris the Blade process death metal riffs in the style of Carnifex , "fluttery" breakdowns and "feverish shimmering disharmonies" and play at a technically high level. The band on the album is as multifaceted as the current Fit for an Autopsy . Fast picking like with Suicide Silence is also occasionally present. In the songs, the group also work elements from post-hardcore and black metal and there are spoken word passages like Korn .
