Watt d'Or

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Watt d'Or is an award for exceptional performance in the energy sector in Switzerland. The prize is awarded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy .

background

The Watt d'Or was launched by the Federal Office of Energy in 2006 and has been awarded annually at the beginning of January since then. The prize is not endowed , which is why there are no winners or prize money for any of the awarded projects, organizations or people.

With the award, the SFOE honors innovative projects and concepts that help shape Switzerland's energy future. Specifically, projects are to be awarded that permanently increase the share of renewable energies and curb the increase in total energy consumption. In 2020 the event took place for the thirteenth time, in 2017 there was no award ceremony.

aims

With the award, the Federal Office is pursuing the goal of drawing attention to projects that are exemplary in terms of Swiss energy policy .

  • The award-winning projects, organizations and people should be made known to the public.
  • The winners serve as "best practice" and thus as an orientation for future projects.
  • The courage to innovate should be encouraged.
  • There are future trends identified and the objectives of the Swiss energy policy are common.

criteria

In order to be awarded, the projects must:

  1. have been realized in the previous year's period,
  2. have an innovative character and show noticeable progress compared to the previous state of the art,
  3. offer a clear energy benefit with regard to the goals of Swiss energy policy and society, and
  4. be comprehensible for the general public.

Categories

The Watt d'Or is awarded in four categories (as of 2018):

  1. Energy technologies
  2. Renewable energy
  3. Energy efficient mobility
  4. Building and space

The Federal Office of Energy awards a special prize for excellent services that cannot be clearly categorized. For example in 2018 in the field of energy efficiency. Until 2014 there was also the category Society.

jury

The SFOE appoints an expert jury for each category. In 2019 the jury consists of:
