Wolfgang Rabbel (* 1957 ) is a German geophysicist and university professor.

Live and act

Rabbel has been Professor of Applied Geophysics at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel since 1995 . His work focuses on near-surface prospection, seismics and seismology .

He directs or directed numerous u. a. Projects funded by the German Research Foundation, particularly in the fields of archaeometry , engineering and hydrogeophysics, marine geophysics, seismics and seismology.

The projects include a. the seismological TOR project carried out in an international cooperation at the end of the 1990s , which served the structural investigation of the earth's crust and the upper mantle in the area of the suture zone between Baltika and Avalonia in Northern Europe. The focus of his scientific work is in the field of seismics. Rabbel directed z. B., in addition to a large number of other projects, a research work on seismic vertical profiles in the KTB borehole . In the recent past he has increasingly devoted himself to seismic investigations in the area of subduction zones , such as off the coast of Java or Costa Rica .
