Wolfgang Riedler (born May 24, 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ), former chairman of the SPÖ Graz and Graz city ​​councilor from 2003 to 2010 . Between July 2013 and August 2018 he was managing director of the Wiener Zeitung .

School and professional career

Riedler graduated from the upper secondary school in 1979 and studied law at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz , where he received his doctorate in 1989. After his civil service he became an employee of the State of Styria and from 1991 a civil servant in the higher service.

Political career

Riedler began his political involvement in the young generation , and from 1989-1993 was their state chairman and deputy national chairman. In 1993 he moved into the Graz municipal council for the first time, in 1996 he became a member of the National Council for one year , then again a councilor.

At the same time as he moved into the Graz municipal council, Riedler became the state education chairman of the SPÖ Styria, a position he still holds.

At the end of March 2003, Riedler became a city councilor - he won a vote against a candidate nominated by the then SPÖ Graz chairman Walter Ferk . From 2003 to 2008 he was city councilor for finances, after the Graz municipal council elections in 2008 he was city councilor for culture and health until 2010.

After the resignation of Walter Ferk, Riedler was elected chairman of the SPÖ Graz in 2008. On June 18, 2010, Riedler was defeated in a battle vote in the election for chairman of the SPÖ Graz against Elke Edlinger with 147: 154 votes.
