Wolfgang Schilling (soccer player, 1955)

Wolfgang Schilling (born June 9, 1955 in Sittensen ; † April 30, 2018 ) was a German football player . The midfielder and striker was active for Arminia Bielefeld and Tennis Borussia Berlin .

Schilling began his career in the youth of Hamburger SV and started his professional career in 1973 with Arminia Bielefeld. With his team he qualified in 1974 for the newly introduced 2nd Bundesliga . In 1978 he and Arminia became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga North and made it to the Bundesliga . Schilling switched to Tennis Borussia Berlin, where he ended his professional career in 1981 after relegation. He played a total of 235 second division games and scored 36 goals. In addition, he ran 35 times in the Regionalliga , but remained there without scoring.

Schilling stayed with Tennis Borussia until 1984, then moved to Spandauer SV , where he played in the major league until 1990. Afterwards he was first co-then head coach at this club. Later he trained a. a. the Berliner AK , with which Schilling rose to the top league in 1999.

Since 2007, Schilling has been dependent on a wheelchair after a stroke . He died in April 2018 of complications from a heart attack . Wolfgang Schilling spent the last years of his life in his native Sittensen.
