Wolfgang Schivelbusch

Wolfgang Schivelbusch (born November 26, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German publicist and historian.

Schivelbusch studied literature, sociology and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main. Since 1973 he has lived in New York and Berlin. He is best known for his works on the history of mentality . In 2003 he was awarded the Heinrich Mann Prize by the Berlin Academy of the Arts .

In 1978 he received the German Non-Fiction Prize for his work on the history of rail travel, published in 1977 . In 2005 Schivelbusch was awarded the Aby Warburg Foundation's Science Prize. In 2013 he received the Lessing Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg .
