Wolfgang Schmidbauer

Wolfgang Schmidbauer (born May 15, 1941 in Munich ) is a German psychoanalyst and writer .

Live and act

From 1960 to 1966 Schmidbauer studied psychology at the LMU Munich . In 1970 he received his doctorate with Albert Görres in Munich with the thesis "Myth and Psychology - Methodical Problems, shown in the Oedipus saga ". In addition to his work as an author, Schmidbauer has been working in private practice as an analytical individual and group therapist and supervisor since 1973 . In 1977 he published the bestseller Die helpflosen Helfer - a work that is still received today - and coined the term “ helper syndrome ” in it. He was also one of the first critics of the consumer society from an ecological-psychological point of view ( Homo consumens , 1972; Now have, pay later , 1995). Schmidbauer is one of the most active specialist writers in Germany.

From 1976 to 1980 he had a teaching position for clinical psychology at the LMU Munich. In 1986 he was visiting professor for psychoanalysis at the University of Kassel .

He is currently honorary chairman of the Society for Analytical Group Dynamics, in which group leaders, supervisors and family therapists are trained, and training analyst of the Munich Working Group for Psychoanalysis.

Schmidbauer lives in Munich and Dießen am Ammersee .
