Wolfgang Schmitt (born April 27, 1953 ) is a former German soccer player .

As a player in SG Wattenscheid 09 , he won the West German championship in the West German regional football league (26 regional league games with 13 goals) in 1974 under coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp and teammates like Jürgen Jendrossek and Hannes Bongartz and played three games in the promotion round to the 1st Bundesliga in which he scored two goals; But Wattenscheid failed due to Eintracht Braunschweig, the northern champions returned to the Bundesliga. From 1975 to 1981 Schmitt played 73 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and scored 17 goals.

During the 1976/77 season he completed a one-year guest appearance at Rot-Weiss Lüdenscheid and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga North.
