Wolfgang Georg Sievers (born September 18, 1913 in Berlin , † August 6, 2007 in Melbourne ) was an Australian photographer of German descent.

Life

Wolfgang Sievers was the son of the art historian Johannes Sievers (1880–1969). In 1935/36 he spent a year in Portugal, from 1936 to 1938 he studied at the art school "Contempora Lehrateliers für neue Werkkunst" in Berlin. Because of his mother's Jewish origins, he had problems in Germany and went to Australia in 1938.

In his work, Sievers first specialized in architecture and later on industrial photography. He convinces with his composition, which constantly maintains a harmonious balance between man and machine.

In 2000 a major retrospective exhibition took place at the Arquivo Fotografico Municipal de Lisboa in Portugal.

In 2002 the Australian National Library signed a contract with Sievers, after which Sievers' entire archive for the photographic collection was acquired over a period of several years.
