Wolfgang Thielmann (* 1954 ) is a German journalist and Protestant theologian .

Life

Thielmann studied Protestant theology and became a pastor in the Association of Free Protestant Congregations in Germany . He has been pastor of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland since 2017 . From 1978 to 1992 he worked for the evangelical news agency idea , most recently as deputy director. In 1992 he moved to Diakonie Deutschland - Evangelischer Bundesverband, as press spokesman and head of the information department . From 1999 to 2010 he was head of the Christ and World section of the Rheinischer Merkurs and from 2010 to 2016 editor and “editorial pastor” in the Christ & Welt section of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . From 2004 to 2014 he was also a juror for the Sermon Prize , two years as chairman.

He was u. a. Employee at the Evangelical Pocket Catechism .

In 2016, Thielmann was awarded the Richard von Weizsäcker Journalist Prize for his report “Heim statt Heimat” in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , where he dealt with caring for elderly relatives .
