Wolfgang Wagner (media manager)

Wolfgang Wagner (born October 14, 1959 in Sargenroth ) is a German electrical engineer and media manager . Since 2013 he has been production director at WDR .

Life

From 1980 to 1985 Wagner studied electrical engineering specializing in communications technology at the University of Karlsruhe , graduating with a degree in engineering. He then worked at Robert Bosch GmbH until 1987 , where he developed production control systems for industrial plants.

In 1987, Wagner switched to the technical department of ZDF . After taking on several managerial positions there, he was appointed head of the information and system technology division in January 2004. Wagner was thus responsible for the entire IT of the television station, including telecommunications technology and ensuring program distribution. He also represented ZDF in several committees.

On December 20, 2012, the WDR Broadcasting Council elected him as the successor to Heinz-Joachim Weber as the new director of production and technology at the Cologne station, at the suggestion of director Monika Piel . Wagner took up his new office on April 1, 2013. In addition to IT, he is also responsible for production and broadcast technology as well as the coordination of external broadcasts. According to WDR, one of Wagner's most important goals is the increasing distribution of programs on new technical channels. He is a member of the production and technology committee of ARD and ZDF. On April 28, 2017, Wagner was re-elected by the WDR Broadcasting Council for a further term from April 2018 to March 2023.

Wolfgang Wagner is married and has two children.
