Heinz-Joachim Weber

Heinz-Joachim Weber (born October 25, 1943 in Rheinberg ) is a former German media manager . Until 2013 he was director of production and technology at WDR .

Life

Weber, who studied business administration, came from Rheinberg near Duisburg , came to WDR in 1975 and initially worked in the organization and IT department. In 1978 he became deputy head of the TV program management department, and from 1982 Weber headed the broadcasting resource management department.

In April 1987, he finally took over the main broadcasting management department, which made him deputy radio director at the same time. At the suggestion of artistic director Fritz Pleitgen , the WDR Broadcasting Council elected him on February 26, 1997 as production director of the Cologne broadcaster, and he took office in August of the same year. In 2002 he also became the managing director of the German Camera Prize Cologne eV , which he remained until 2006.

During his tenure as WDR production director, he succeeded in reorganizing the management from 2000 onwards, making some technical modernizations in the production process. After a restructuring in 2005, which resulted in the merger of the production and technical departments, Weber became the first director of production and technology. In November 2010 he was re-elected by the Broadcasting Council for a further term. In 2007 he also took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of Colonia Media Filmproduktions GmbH , which merged with Bavaria Film in 2014.

Weber retired on March 31, 2013, and was succeeded by Wolfgang Wagner .
