Life and research

Weisser studied biology at the University of Giessen and Bayreuth from 1984 to 1991 and graduated in 1991 with a diploma. By 1994 he obtained his PhD. at the University of Oxford in the Department of Zoology. He is Vice-Chairman of the International Program on Biodiversity ( Diversitas ) in Germany. Weisser's working group researches the interaction of organisms and biodiversity . He focuses on the interactions between organisms at different trophic levels and uses herbivorous species such as aphids , grasshoppers , bees , beetles , springtails , earthworms and snails as model organisms .
