Wolfgang Werth

Wolfgang Werth (* 1937 in Rudolstadt ( Thuringia )) is a German literary critic .

After fleeing the GDR in 1956, he studied German , Romance studies and journalism at the Free University of Berlin . He first worked as an editor ( Heilbronner Voice, Deutsche Zeitung and Der MONTH ) then as a freelance literary critic. From 1973 to feature editor at the Süddeutsche Zeitung , from 1979 to 2001 headed its literary department. For his poetry interpretations in the Saturday supplement of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , he received the prize of the Frankfurter Anthologie in 2000 .
