Wolfgang Zimmermann (born December 14, 1949 in Leichlingen (Rhineland) ) is a German politician and trade unionist . From 2007 to 2010 he was state spokesman and from 2010 to 2012 member of the state parliament of the party Die Linke in North Rhine-Westphalia and chairman of his parliamentary group.

Zimmermann, a trade unionist since 1973 (until November 2010 chairman of the ver.di district of Rhein-Wupper and until March 2011 member of the ver.di regional board of North Rhine- Westphalia) and chairman of the staff council at the LVR-Klinik Langenfeld until May 2010 , had before joining the WASG gained political experience with the PDS and is a member of the socialist group isl .

In June 2005, he replaced Hüseyin Kenan Aydın as state spokesman for the WASG North Rhine-Westphalia. In November 2005 Zimmermann, like his colleague Katharina Schwabedissen , was re-elected as state spokesman.

At the merger convention of the WASG with the party Die Linke NRW in Gladbeck on October 20, 2007 Zimmermann received 256 of 287 votes in the election for state spokesman. He shared the office with Ulrike Detjen until October 18, 2008 . At the state party conference of the party Die Linke NRW on October 18, 2008 in Essen, he was re-elected spokesman with 156 of 226 votes. After Ulrike Detjen left, he held office again with Katharina Schwabedissen until July 2010.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2010 , Wolfgang Zimmermann moved into the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia as the runner-up on his party's state list . In its constituent meeting, the parliamentary group on the left elected Wolfgang Zimmermann alongside Bärbel Beuermann as group chairman. In the state elections in 2012 , Wolfgang Zimmermann was also elected to second place on the state list by his party. Lung cancer was diagnosed during a medical examination during the election campaign . The party held on to his candidacy despite the failure in the election campaign. When the left failed to pass the five percent hurdle in this election, he left the state parliament.

Zimmermann writes articles for the Socialist Newspaper at irregular intervals . It is organized in the Anti-Capitalist Left (AKL), a party-left flow association.
