Jörg Christian Detjen (born August 3, 1953 in Schwerin ) is a Cologne politician. He has been a member of the Council of the City of Cologne for the PDS and Die Linke since 1999 and is a candidate for the mayoral elections in 2020.

Life

Professional

Jörg Detjen grew up in Osnabrück and completed an apprenticeship as a printer there after graduating from school . In the following years he worked in this profession in various places. He has lived in Cologne since 1980, where he did a second apprenticeship as a publishing clerk.

Engagement in K groups

Detjen belonged to the Communist Federation of West Germany (KBW) founded in 1973 as " Secretary of the Osnabrück Local Line" and was a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the KBW. He ran for the KBW several times in elections in various constituencies and in first place on the Lower Saxony state list , for example in the 1976 federal election in Osnabrück constituency and in the 1980 federal election in Hanover I constituency . When the organization split in the summer of 1980, he stood up the side of the Fochler parliamentary group, which founded the Bund Westdeutscher Kommunisten (BWK) in late summer of the year . From 1980 to 1995 he was the managing director of the Central Committee of the BWK. Jörg Detjen has been a member of the PDS since 1992, for which he has been represented with a seat in the Council of the City of Cologne since 1999, and since 2005 as parliamentary group leader of the Die Linke parliamentary group . At times the parliamentary group worked closely with the red-green council alliance.

In 2005 he also stood as a candidate for the Bundestag elections in the Cologne III constituency .

From 2004 to 2009 Detjen was represented for his party in the Rhineland Regional Assembly, since 2009 he has been a member of the supervisory board of the municipal utilities group and since July 2014 chairman of the auditing committee of the Cologne City Council.

In the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2020 , he will run as a candidate for mayor for his party. His election campaign topics include housing policy as well as ecological and social climate policy.

Detjen is active as a spokesman for the Cologne Alliance against racism and appears regularly as a registrant and meeting leader of demonstrations against the right. Together with Günter Wallraff and others, he campaigns for the release of Cologne residents from prison in Turkey, among them Hozan Canê and Adil Demirci .

Private

Jörg Detjen is married to Ulrike Detjen (born August 3, 1952 in Lage , nee Kirchhof), who was also active as a party politician for the KBW, BWK and Die Linke. Since 2003 she has been state chairman of the PDS in North Rhine-Westphalia together with Paul Schäfer and from October 2007 one year state spokeswoman for the party Die Linke in NRW together with Wolfgang Zimmermann . For her parliamentary group, she is a member of the Rhineland Regional Assembly in various committees.
