Volga ( Russian Волга ) is a settlement in Nekous district of Yaroslavl Oblast in Russia , on the left bank of the Volga .
In 2002 3543 people lived in the settlement; by 2010 the population sank to under 3000. 25 km northeast of the settlement is the city of Rybinsk , 20 km south of the settlement is the small town of Myshkin . There is also a wool spinning mill and a textile school in the settlement. The Volga railway station is located near the settlement .
The Volga is the administrative seat of the rural municipality Wolschskoje selskoje posselenije, to which 65 other villages and rural settlements belong. The rural community has a total of 4197 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
history
The place was created towards the end of the 19th century in connection with the establishment of a wool spinning mill by German entrepreneurs on the Rybinsk - Bologoje railway line . In 1927 it received urban-type settlement status , which it lost again in 1996.
