Wollle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wollle is a group of artists who, in addition to interactive art, also devote themselves to graphic design and character design . The group has been active since 2003 and has since exhibited at many different festivals. The main focus was on the innovative further development and use of interfaces and the topic of environmental protection.

Members

The group was founded by Timm Wilks, Harald Moser and Thorsten Kiesl in 2003. However, they have always endeavored to work with other artists and creators. In 2006, projects with the textile designer Steffan Prügelhuber (autumn-winter collection) and the video artist Sebastian Dietrich (project "screampoint", see below) were realized.

Main exhibitions

2006

Nature (interactive installation)

Shown at "Spring Awakening" Linz and at "Microstories Austria", an exhibition in the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna. Nature has been part of the museum collection of the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) Vienna since January 2007.

As a philosophical term, what is natural (originating from nature) and what is not natural is shaped by the relationship between people and their environment. In this context, “environment” stands for the “not-I” that is outside of humans. The installation nature visualizes the effects of humans on nature. In addition, a canvas reflects the behavior of the audience with the help of a still life . Depending on how considerate and respectful they are, it shows transitions from a blossoming to a withering nature and vice versa.

serial_killah (Augmented Reality Game)

Shown at the “ Ars Electronica Festival 2006”, Linz

serial_killah is a real time - computer game with a touch screen interface. It makes use of the aesthetics of a surveillance camera to mix real and virtual worlds and to compare them side by side. For this purpose, the exhibition space is "monitored" with the help of a camera. The picture is shown live in a corner of the room on a monitor with a touchscreen surface.

The user can now press on individual people in order to "crush" them. You hear a "splash" and the person disappears under a large blood stain. In the good old computer game manner, the blood stain slowly becomes invisible again after a while, but the person, and only this person, remains lost on the surveillance picture until they re-enter the room.

In terms of content, this work deals on the one hand with the manipulability of images, on the other hand it takes a position on the recurrent discussion of the differentiation between virtual and real violence .

screampoint (interactive photo booth )

Shown at the “ Bitfilm Festival 2006” in Hamburg and at the “Ars Electronica Festival 2006” in Linz.

Compared to conventional photo booths that take passport photos and portraits, screampoint does not charge a fee, but reacts to the emotions of the user: The external appearance of the screampoint does not differ significantly from a photo box that is located in train stations or shopping centers. Inside, however, a completely different process takes place: instead of the usual mirror, there is a monitor that shows the viewer's portrait. However, the image is initially blurred . The only way to correct this is to scream as loudly as possible. In contrast to the normally quiet place of vanity, this creates a place of fun, loud laughter and screaming. When a certain volume level is reached, the portrait is sharp and saved (idea and concept: Sebastian Dietrich).

2007

Garden of Eden (hybrid art installation)

“Garden of Eden” (GoE) consists of eight platforms, which are provided with an airtight plexiglass dome. Lettuce , which is exposed to an artificial air circulation, grows in the domes . At the same time, the platforms are connected to the Internet.

The data on the current air pollution in the capitals of the G7 countries and Austria are read live from this . This data is used to create the same pollutant concentrations in the atmospheres of the individual platforms as they currently prevail in cities. The aim is to use the plants to create an indicator that illustrates global emissions.

The exhibition situation of the platforms turns the plants into sculptures that speak in the language of nature about the state of nature.

Garden of Eden won an Honorary Mention (special mention) in the “Next Idea” category of the “ Prix Ars Electronica 2007”.
