Volodymyr Walerianowytsch Pidwyssozkyj ( Ukrainian Володимир Валеріанович Підвисоцький , Russian Владимир Валерьянович Подвысоцкий / Vladimir Walerjanowitsch Podwyssozki ; born May 24 . Jul / 5. June  1857 greg. In Maksymiwka , Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire , † January 9 jul. / January 22  1913 greg. in Saint Petersburg ) was a in Kiev acting ukrainian -Russian pathologist , endocrinologist , immunologist and microbiologist .

Life

Volodymyr began to study medicine at the medical faculty of St. Vladimir University in Kiev in 1877 and received his doctorate there in 1886. Between 1885 and 1887 he was employed as a bacteriologist at the Pasteur Institute . In 1887 he founded the Faculty of General and Experimental Pathology at the University of Kiev and was its director for over 13 years. His students included Danylo Sabolotnyj , Oleksandr Bohomolez and Lev Tarasevich ( Лев Александрович Тарасевич ).

As a microbiologist and immunologist, Pidwyssozkyj researched the protective functions of the human body and the effects on it from pathogens and microorganisms. He published his research results in 1891 in the illustrated book Fundamentals of General and Experimental Pathology - A Guide to the Examination of a Male Patient .

In 1891 he was actively involved in containing the cholera epidemic in Kiev. From 1895 he published a monthly medical journal for over 7 years, for which he collaborated with Ilya Metschnikow and Volodymyr Vysokovich ( Володимир Костянтинович Високович , 1854-1912), among others .

Between 1900 and 1905 he was dean of the medical faculty of the Imperial University of New Russia in Odessa and organized the construction of a children's clinic. In 1905 he was appointed head of the Imperial Institute for Experimental Medicine in Saint Petersburg.
