The Woltersteich is a pond east of the village or district Woltersmühlen in the municipality of Süsel in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein .
The pond is located in Holstein Switzerland , surrounded by a hilly moraine landscape , is approx. 36 hectares in size, has a triangular shape with a width and length of approx. 600 m and drains westward into the Schwartau, which flows approx. 200 m away . It was created by building a dam at a narrow narrow point and dams the water of the Hundebek .
The Woltersteich was first mentioned in 1488, when it - together with other lakes and villages - was sold to the Ahrensbök monastery . It was used as a mill (the "Woltersmühle") and as a fish pond (from around 1900 by the Woltersteich fishing estate ) - today it is used as a bathing and fishing lake.
The water is surrounded by swamp forests and reed areas and borders the Süseler Moor (a low moor ) to the north and has a sea eagle nesting site.
