Wonderful Rainbow is the third album by the American noise rock band Lightning Bolt . It is considered their most catchy album and was released on Load Records in the spring of 2003.

The album appears in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die , where the band is referred to as the meanest drum and bass band of all time. However, bassist Brian Gibson is incorrectly listed as guitarist in the book.

reception

Tiny Mix Tapes ranked the album as the third best album of the 2000s.

Pitchfork Media placed the album at # 157 on the "Top 200 Albums of the 2000s". On the occasion of the placement, the critic Marc Masters wrote about the album:

"All in all, the effect [of the album] is less superfluous than generous, so that Wonderful Rainbow is like a pot of gold at the end of another invigorating ascension."

- Marc Masters

In 2003 Pitchfork Media gave the album 8.4 out of 10.0 points.

Rick Anderson gives 4/5 points to the record and writes on allmusic :

“The album is like having a beautiful girl hit you on the head several times with a baseball bat. Imagine the best aspects of Fred Frith , Derek Bailey , The Ruins, Slayer and Ornette Coleman and toss it all in the blender. Then imagine it on speed . [The album] here is an overseer! "

- Rick Anderson
