history
In September 1974, Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and Indonesia's dictator Suharto met near Wonosobo to discuss the situation in Portuguese Timor , which was preparing for independence as East Timor . Although he recognized the desire for self-determination, he considered an association with Indonesia to be best in the interests of East Timor. In 1975, Indonesia forcibly annexed East Timor.
