World Snowboarding Federation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Snowboarding Federation or WSF is a global umbrella organization for snowboard associations. It leads the official ratings of the Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour (TTR), manages a tribe of over 60,000 members and organizes events around the world.

history

After the bankruptcy of the International Snowboarding Federation (ISF) in June 2002, several representatives from various associations met in Munich to discuss the future of professional snowboarding . On August 10, 2002, the World Snowboarding Federation was founded under the leadership of associations from Japan and Norway , which started its work after a last meeting in November 2002 in Vienna . Following the example of the ISF, the task was to continue the original development of the sport and to represent relevant interests. Soon the WSF merged with the TTR, a league that developed after the collapse of the ISF and can be seen as direct competition to competitions from the FIS , which played a key role in the closure of the ISF.

The organization with its headquarters in Prague is chaired by Gunnar Tveit , but since 2006 there have also been other offices in Norway , Italy , Russia , the Czech Republic and Japan that work closely together.

tasks

First and foremost, the WSF connects the national and regional umbrella organizations worldwide and works with them on the further development of sport, especially in the areas of competitions, shaping (creating obstacles and jumps), education (avalanche courses, foreign languages & media training for young drivers, etc.) and involvement of drivers, trainers and associations in decisions.

The WSF itself is heavily involved in promoting young talent, for which a tour has been organized annually since 2003 in cooperation with the TTR , for which every driver under 18 can register - no sponsors or similar are required to be able to participate. The best drivers can take part in prestigious TTR competitions based on their results and thus collect points. The four-time overall TTR winner Peetu Piiroinen , for example, was a participant and also the winner of this program (World Rookie Tour) in the year.

Another important task of the WSF is the promotion and development of a league for disabled snowboarders (Adaptive Snowboarding). Camps and competitions are organized and technological development is promoted, which is promoted in cooperation with national associations and various companies.

Since 2012, a joint world championship has been held every four years together with the TTR .
