Wormer- en Jisperveld

The Wormer- en Jisperveld is a bird sanctuary and part of a Natura 2000 reserve in the province of Noord-Holland in the Netherlands .

geography

The area is a protected area according to the bird protection directive of the European Union with an area of ​​1753 hectares. It lies entirely in the municipality of Wormerland and about 15 kilometers north of Amsterdam . The area encloses the localities Jisp almost completely and Wormer to a large extent. It borders on the places Graft-De Rijp and Beemster in the north, Wijdewormer in the east, Zaanstad in the south and Starnmeer in the west.

history

For a long time only a small part of today's area was under protection. In 1980 it was a total of 385 hectares of the total area specified at that time as around 1700 hectares. With the decision of the responsible minister of March 24, 2000, following the European Bird Protection Directive of 1979, the area was designated as a corresponding area and expanded to a total of around 1300 hectares.
