Jisp is a district of the municipality Wormerland in the Dutch province of North Holland .

geography

The village is located three kilometers northeast of Wormer and eight kilometers west of Purmerend in a typical marshland on the Wormer Jisp en Nek polder . The vast majority of the district is uninhabited and is part of the 1,475 hectares large Natura 2000 -region Wormer- en Jisperveld & Kalverpolder comprising the inhabited local situation almost completely.

The Spijkerboor settlement has always been part of the village and is located about four kilometers north-north-west of the village.

history

The first evidence of settlement in the area for the year 956 can be found in old documents. The present-day village was probably built in the 11th century on a peat river with the same name, the spelling of which was also recorded in various variants such as Gispe or Gyspe .

For a long time the village was independent, except between 1518 and 1611 when it was merged with Wormer. Until 1990, it was an independent municipality, but the following year it went up together with the municipalities of Wormer and Wijdewormer in the newly founded Wormerland.
