The place is in the extreme northeast of a polder called De Wijde Wormer and three kilometers west of the city of Purmerend . Smaller parts of the settlement lie east of the main town, beyond the ring dike of the polder and south of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal .

history

Originally, the name of the place referred to a strip of land between two inland lakes, the Beemster and Wormer Sea , which connects to the east of the ring dike. A village called Nek was located on this headland as early as the twelfth century . Until 1582 this place belonged to the city and former hogen of vrijen Heerlijkheid von Purmerend en Purmerland .

The polder, on which the majority of today's settlement lies, was drained in 1626.

In 1812 the place became part of the municipality of Jisp , in 1817 it became part of the municipality of Wijdewormer and in 1991 this became part of the newly founded municipality of Wormerland.
