Worship is a funeral doom metal band. It was founded in 1998 by the French Fucked Up Mad Max (d. I. Max Varnier) and the German Daniel The Doomonger (d. I. Daniel Vaross).

history

Fucked Up Mad Max and Daniel The Doomonger met and became friends when Max, also editor of the fanzine Ocean Morphique , interviewed Daniel several times. Since both shared an interest in Doom Metal, they formed a band together; Daniel was responsible for the music, together they wrote the lyrics and sang, Max played the drums on later recordings.

During a stay in Canada, the manic-depressive Max committed suicide while he was intoxicated in July 2001 by jumping off a bridge. In 2003 the band was reactivated by Daniel after repeated persuasion, and in 2004 Satachist joined the band as a further guitarist as well as on bass in the Kuolema studio. The album that had already started with Max was recorded together to the end.

For the first time the band (with additional live musicians) played three concerts in Belgium and Holland in 2005, for the tenth anniversary in 2008 the band then played an anniversary tour with performances in Russia and Japan. In 2014 the band toured again in Japan, accompanied by Corrupted , among others .

The band always saw themselves explicitly as an underground band, with little interest in commercial success. Daniel was also active as a singer in the band Beyond the Void from 2000 to 2009 .

The band debuted in 1999 with a demo cassette Last Tape Before Doomsday . In 2001 the band recorded for a new release. By 2002, further recordings were released on split singles and the demo was repeatedly re-released as Last Vinyl Before Doomsday , later also as Last CD Before Doomsday . In 2007, the second album, Dooom , was released, which was partly based on material that was recorded with Max, but which was further developed with the new musicians, and has features like radio plays. The follow-up Terranean Wake was released in 2012, and the band is currently working on the next album Dusk of Legion, Morning of One .
