Wouter Koolmees (born March 20, 1977 in Capelle aan den IJssel ) is a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 (D66). Since October 2017 he has been Minister for Social Affairs and Labor in the Rutte III cabinet . He was also Deputy Prime Minister from November 1, 2019 to May 14, 2020 .

career

From 1996 to 2001 Koolmees studied social and institutional economics at the University of Utrecht . From 1999 to 2003, Koolmees worked at the Netherlands Economic Institute (today: Ecorys ) in Rotterdam . He then held various positions in the Ministry of Finance. On June 17, 2010 he became a member of the Second Chamber of the States General for the left-wing liberal party D66 . He was parliamentary group spokesman for finance and housing and deputy group chairman. On October 26, 2017, Koolmees was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in the third Rutte cabinet. Koolmees lives in Rotterdam.
