Wroughtonia spinator is a parasitic living Hautflüglerart from the subfamily Helconinae within the family of braconids (Braconidae).
features
The brackish wasps reach a body length of 7–8 mm. They have a black basic color. The black feelers have a white band halfway along their length. The femora and tibia of the anterior and middle legs are reddish in color. The posterior femora have a ventral tooth. The posterior femora are also completely reddish in color and the posterior coxae are almost completely red. The posterior tarsi are strikingly white in color. The marginal cell of the hind wing is noticeably enlarged apically.
distribution
The brackish wasp species occurs in western Central Europe. Their distribution area extends in the north to Great Britain , Sweden and Norway . In the south it is represented in France and Italy. The species is absent on the Iberian Peninsula , in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Wroughtonia spinator is also found in the Far East (China, Taiwan and Japan).
Way of life
The larvae of Wroughtonia spinator develop inside their living and growing host ( koinobionter endoparasitoid ). As hosts, the Brackwespenart uses wood-boring beetle larvae from the family of longhorn beetles . The brackish wasps track down the larvae that develop under the bark of trees. They lay their eggs on the beetle larva with the help of their laying spines. The hatched brackish wasp larvae feed on the beetle larva.
The hosts include the following species:
- Common ram ( Clytus arietis )
- Graubindiger osprey ( Mesosa nebulosa )
