Wu took part in the European Cup from February 2003. He made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on December 5, 2003 in Ruka , where he finished 24th and won his first World Cup points. In the following years he limited his World Cup appearances to events in China and established himself in the midfield. He won the bronze medal at the 2007 Junior World Championships in Airolo , and in 2009 he was also third at the Winter Universiade in Harbin . From the 2009/10 season Wu participated again in World Cup events outside of his country. On December 19, 2009, he achieved his first podium finish with third place in Changchun . Due to the strong competition within the team, however, he could not qualify for the Olympic Games.
