Wulf Roessler

Wulf Rössler (born September 9, 1947 ) is a German psychiatrist . He is emeritus professor for clinical psychiatry at the University of Zurich and was director of the Clinic for Social Psychiatry and General Psychiatry at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Zurich for many years . He has been a postgraduate professor at the University of São Paulo since 2013 and senior professor at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin since 2017 .

Life

Born near Heidelberg , Wulf Rössler first studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg and then psychology , also in Heidelberg. In 1981 he began his training in psychiatry at the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim, which he completed in 1992 with the title of specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy . He also acquired additional qualifications in social medicine and rehabilitation . In 1993 he completed his habilitation on the subject of "Social Rehabilitation of Schizophrenics", a topic that emerged from his work as head of the state program for psychiatry in Baden-Württemberg.

In 1996 he was appointed to the chair for clinical psychiatry at the University of Zurich and at the same time became director of the Clinic for Social Psychiatry and General Psychiatry Zurich West of the Psychiatric University Clinic. In addition, from 1999 to 2003 and from 2009 to 2013 he was Head of the Medical Directorate of the Psychiatric University Clinic in Zurich. In 2007 and 2008 he was visiting professor at the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of São Paulo . Since April 2010 he has been visiting professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg. After his retirement at the University of Zurich, he has been a senior professor at Leuphana and a postgraduate professorship at the University of São Paulo since 2013. He was also appointed senior professor at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin in 2017 .

Act

Rössler's main research focus is on psychiatric epidemiology . His list of publications includes more than 450 works. He is the editor of several standard textbooks, e.g. B. in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation and emergency psychiatry, as well as author of various monographs.

Rössler is on the scientific advisory board of various specialist journals. He is a board member of the Institute for Health and Addiction Research, the Association of Psychiatric Chief Physicians and also President of the Swiss Society for Psychiatric Epidemiology, and President of the International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology.

Since 2009 he has been the overall project manager of the “Zurich Impulse Program for the Sustainable Development of Psychiatry” (ZINEP), a research program with seven sub-projects in the field of psychiatric care and epidemiology.
