Wulff-Land is an uninhabited peninsula in Knud-Rasmussen-Land in northern Greenland . Administratively, it belonged to the province of Avannaa ("North Greenland") until the end of 2008 , and since 1988 to the non-parish area of the Northeast Greenland National Park .

The approximately 120 kilometers long, tapering region borders to the north on the Lincoln Sea , a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean , to the northeast it is separated from the island of Naresland by the Victoriafjord . To the west it is separated from the Hendrik Island and the Castle Island offshore by the Sankt Georg Fjord. The Greenland Ice Sheet borders the Wulff Land to the south . The island of Beaumont Ø is located 26 kilometers north of Wulff-Land .

Despite its extremely northerly location at around 82 ° N, the Wulff Land is only partially glaciated due to low rainfall. The largest glacier is the Sven-Hedin-Firn around the 1210 m high Farragjut Bjerg. The north-western tip of the peninsula is called Cape May. 18 km to the east begins the fertile Gunnar Andersson Dal, which extends far into the interior of Wulff Land and is inhabited by musk ox and mountain hare .

Discovery and Characteristics

From a European point of view, Wulff Land was only discovered in the 19th century; it is named after the Swedish botanist and polar explorer Thorild Wulff , who died on Knud Rasmussen's second Thule expedition . The Wulff Land is one of the most hostile parts of the Arctic. While even the north-east bordering Pearyland was once settled, there are no archaeological traces of human presence in the Wulff-Land. Notable deposits of raw materials have not been found here either.
