XY list
The XY list is a list kept by ARD with names of celebrities for whom there are pre-produced obituaries .
The list contains approx. 250 entries and is sorted into two importance categories:
- In the event of the death of persons classified in “X” (such as the Federal Chancellor or Federal President ), the program is interrupted immediately and a pre-produced special broadcast is broadcast.
- For personalities listed under "Y", an obituary is broadcast in the Tagesschau or Tagesthemen .
The existence of this list is an open secret . B. already printed in 1978 in Stern . Despite this, the fact that the station keeps a list of obituaries for living people has already been declared a scandal. B. from the Bild newspaper on October 5, 2007.
The ARD-aktuell - editor in chief , Kai Gniffke said the death of Hans Filbinger the existence of this list in the blog of the evening news with the following words:
“ Once a year, the 'XY officers' from all of the ARD state broadcasters meet with us. The 'XY list' is the list of people who will receive an obituary in the event of their death. These obituaries are produced during their lifetime and are constantly updated. The ARD station in whose broadcast area the person concerned is resident is responsible. It all sounds pretty heartless, but it has long been the professional standard of all broadcasters that offer news. If the worst comes to the worst, you can react immediately and then have an obituary at hand, which is not hastily knitted with a hot needle, but carefully prepared and tries to do justice to the deceased person.
