The rear edge of the tergite is narrowly lightened. The 6th exposed tergite is always black on the front half. Legs and antennae are colored yellow-red.
distribution
The beetle species is native to the western Palearctic . It occurs in Western and Central Europe. The species is also represented in the British Isles . It is absent in Scandinavia. The species was apparently introduced to North America. The first evidence at the beginning of the 21st century comes from the south of the Canadian province of Ontario .
Way of life
The xerophilic beetle species prefers warm slopes with sandy soil as a habitat. The brachypteran (short-winged) beetles usually stay under stones, tufts of grass or moss. Both the adult beetles and the larvae predatory feed on small animals such as woodlice or mites. The species trains two generations per year, at least in Europe . The beetles are usually seen in spring and late summer.
