Xavier Espot Zamora (born October 30, 1979 in Escaldes-Engordany ) is an Andorran politician. He has been Andorra's head of government since May 16, 2019 . He is a member of the Demòcrates per Andorra party .

career

He graduated from the ESADE Law Faculty of the Ramon Llull University in Barcelona . He completed his master's degree in law at the faculty and also graduated in humanities from the same university. From September 2004 to June 2008 he was Secretary of the Batllia d'Andorra and from July to December 2008 Secretary of the Court of Andorra. In 2009 he worked as a lawyer in Toulouse ( France ) and Barcelona.

In 2011 he joined the government of Andorra under the direction of Antoni Martí Petit as State Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs. In 2012 he became Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of the Principality of Andorra and from January 2016 Minister of Justice, Home Affairs and Social Affairs. He resigned as minister on February 29, 2019 in preparation for his candidacy for head of government in the 2019 parliamentary elections.

After his party Demòcrates per Andorra became the strongest party in the parliamentary elections on April 7, 2019 with 35% of the vote, he was appointed the new head of government by the General Council on May 16, 2019 , replacing Antoni Martí Petit.
