Xenja von Ertzdorff-Kupffer

Xenja von Ertzdorff-Kupffer (born von Ertzdorff ´; * April 20, 1933 in Sindelfingen ; † September 25, 2013 in Gießen ). was a German medievalist who, as a professor of German philology , dealt with the German language and literature of the Middle Ages and the comparative literary history of the Middle Ages.

Life

Xenja von Ertzdorff-Kupffer studied German, Romance studies and history in Tübingen, Göttingen and Freiburg and received her doctorate in Freiburg in 1958 with studies on the concept of the heart and its use as a statement motif in courtly love poetry of the 12th century . In 1966 she completed her habilitation in Freiburg with a thesis on Rudolf von Ems and in 1970 she was appointed professor for “Germanic Philology” at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (renamed in 1976 to “Medieval German Literature”, in 1977 to “German Language and Literature of the Middle Ages”) “), Which she filled in until her retirement in 1998. Until her serious illness in 2006, she was active in research and teaching and shaped Gießen Medieval Studies, for whose reorientation after 1968 she worked as an interdisciplinary and nationally networked humanities scholar.
